Random road stop: Rouen

We stopped in Rouen for one reason: to see the city where Saint-Jeanne-d'Arc (Joan of Arc) was tried for heresy and burnt at the stake in 1431.  What we found was much more than that.  A very old city with so much character.  It is a city that has gone through a lot in the middle ages such a large fires and plague and it occupied by the English during the Hundred Years' War.  Nevertheless, the city is very charming and people from Rouen are proud of it.
Saint-Jeanne-D'Arc.  They built a church to commemorate her strength.
This is the site where Saint-Jeanne-D'Arc was burnt at the stake.  I appreciate the fact that it has been left alone and they haven't built a big monument or obelisk right in the middle of it.  To me, the sign itself was powerful enough.  They did build a church however, which is on the right, about 50 metres from where she died.

The town itself is a very charming little place !
