Random road stop: Green Venice !

Driving south, we came upon a what we like to call Green Venice (its real name is the Parc Naturel Marais Poitevin).  It's actually a huge marsh with waterways everywhere.  Little villages dot these marshlands.  We went for a walk and got REALLY muddy.  What we really liked was that many locals rely on these "canals" for their food (fish fish and more fish) and many were seen on the side or in their gondola-like boats with 3+ fishing rods.  We decided to sleep green at Green Venice and stayed at a bed and breakfest that solar-hot water (which comes from a 10 000 litre rain water tank) and geothermal heating and cooling (along with recycle bins in you room, organic soaps...).  The water didn't feel any different nor did the heating.  So it works...we trust.

Unpolluted canals everywhere.  It really is a green Venice !
Gondola-like boats are parked everywhere.
Waterway intersection. Very easy to get lost.

  1. Looks like a neat little place. The waterways are intriguing. You take beautiful photographs. Feels like we are there.
